How could this be only PG-13?

The sexual references, the boozing, the underage partying, and didn't Piano Girl get topless? The only thing missing is the word f@ck.

But my theory is that back then, about a year after the PG-13 rating came out, they were more lenient with it. Nowadays, I say this movie gets an R.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Nowadays the boobs would be edited out to receive the PG-13.

It was the 80's man!!

We even had toy guns that weren't painted fluorescent orange!

The 80's rules the earth, all other decades can go jump off a bridge...

reply

Naa, Have you ever seen american pie naked mile or beta house? Thats R rated stuff! And the porkys is the same.

reply

That's because the new American Pie movies are unrated, not PG-13.

reply

Amen brother. I'd go back to the 80's in a heartbeat.

The F-bomb was originally in the film (once) and was dubbed over. Watch Max's mouth when he and RDJ are proposing to "trade" women?

reply

Yeah, you can clearly see and hear the line dubbed over. A little looping goes a long way with the ratings board. There was a lot of that in 80's movies and you can always tell because ADR sucked for the most part back then.

reply

I don't think it was the f-bomb.

The line is "And we'll let you have Deb and Hilly" Reading his lips it looks like he said "And we'll let you screw Deb and Hilly"

Was thinking the same thing. And no way in hell the boys (actors and probably the characters) would be younger than 18!
This movie was not p.c. in a good way. No way they'd get away with half of that today. Another testament to the coolness of the 80's culture. :)

reply

Actually, for a PG-13 movie to keep it's rating, the "F" word is allowed to be used only once in a non-sexual reference.

Also - about the topless piano lady - brief nudity in a non-sexual manner is allowed in PG-13 movies.

How did our society become so censorious? Bring back the 80s!

You can't beat the system, but you can give it a damn good kicking.

This film is so tame by any standards. No swearing I can think of other than "ass". No real boobs other than if you pause it as the girl is going out the chimney.

Watch The Women In Red. That's PG-13 and you see Kelly's bush.

Watch Sheena with Tanya Roberts. That's PG and you get FULL FRONTAL.

Sometimes it's the tone of the nudity that the censors dislike.

reply

Ah yes, the 80's, when a PG-13 rating actually meant something.

reply

I know I heard "sh*t" and "goddamn" at least once.

reply

There's no vulgarity, that's why. The tone is also more comedic and light hearted.

Teen comedies like American Pie etc get R's because they're full of excess and vulgarities. Weird Science doesn't fall into that category.

How many a$$holes we got on this ship, anyhow?!
