widescreen DVD needed!

You know, they really need to get off their hineys and release this on DVD. There was a pan and scan laserdisc, I believe, but that's about as digital as this movie's gotten. With it's great music, it deserves a nice stereo remaster. Funny stuff!

There is also a german release by the small label Sunfilm coming up. It's a double DVD Set containing two versions of the movie:
Disc One has the shorter german cut with 84min and german audio, Disc two has the british/us cut in it's original length (93min, please keep the PAL SpeedUp in mind)and an anamorphic picture. It also features an audio commentary by the director and the script writer, wich seems to be exclusive for this release.

Accourding to Sunfilm there is a difference between the german and the UK/US Version of the film. The german one is obvioulsy cut but features one more scene not included in the UK/US version. Unfortunally I can't tell you wich one it is.

Sunfilm also states that they used an HD Master for this DVD transfer, but wich release, the Anchor Bay or the Sunfilm DVD, will be better, I can't tell.

Oh, btw, this DVD is 11,97 EUR at amazon.de wich is about 14,70US$ without shipping wich is pretty cheap for a new double disc release in germany.

It's out this week in GSA (Germany/Austria/Switzerland) as a 2 DVD Set. One is the original German Theatrical Version (85 min) and the second the longer English Version (93 min). They used an HD master and there's Audio Commetnary from the director and the writer.

According to Sunfilm there is a difference between the German and the UK/US Version of the film. The German one is obviously cut but features one more scene not included in the UK/US version. Unfortunately I can't tell you which one it is.

I just checked this. The additional scene is about 39 minutes in:
When Baxter and Pamela discover the old oil rig has been fenced off, the very next scene shows you how Rob (Dennis Dugan) gets held up by customs officials when he returns to the island, saying "the governor wants to see you". In the British cinema version you next see Rob and Baxter discussing the expired drilling rights at a table outside a bar/restaurant. In the German cinema version, there is an additional scene before that, where you see Baxter entering a customs building, where the officials are going through Rob's suitcases while Rob is standing there stripped naked except his underwear. Baxter uses the opportunity to study Rob's business papers. For some reason, the German version has then cut a few seconds from the next scene (the negotiation at the outside table), more or less going straight to Rob's "my career is in the crapper" and Baxter's "Not necessarily. Maybe we can do a deal."
