One of the worst films ever made....!

Terrible.
Awful.

But worse of all....sooooo boring. If you watch this film you will recall these words as the credits roll at the end - see if you don't.

Sucks.

Go troll somewhere else. Top notch cast, three of which were nom'd for Oscars (with Michael Caine winning twice). Excellent soundtrack. Some of the comedy is a bit dated in places, but overall pretty well done. One of the best Handmade Films releases by far, and a hilarious time capsule (both culturally and musically) of the mid 80s. (decline of colonialism, corporate expansion, with a touch of west bloc vs east bloc and some hatred of the French thrown in).

Richard, did you watch this film expecting Roland Joffe or David Lean? It's a satire! Satire does not exist to reign in A List actors or a story that makes a lot of sense. It is a satire about colonialism, which history has shown and will show in the future, was plain-all out arrogance. Many countries, most notably Britain, France, Spain, and the US have exported their culture upon the rest of the world, and the results have been disastrous. By using the metaphor of mineral water, Water illustrates this point without being too heavy handed. I think Hand Made films has created an excellent film that has been sadly overlooked by many.

Next thing they'll be breeding us like cattle. You've gotta tell them. SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!

i couldn't agree more. pure agony to watch. just seen the first 40 minutes on DVD & had to switch it off.
pure, unmitigated, dated, cheesy, UNAMUSING BOLLOX!
can't believe it was written by the same duo who did PORRIDGE & WHATEVER HAPPENNED TO THE LIKELY LADS?
oh yeah, & billy connollys a *beep*

"what do you think of him?"
"i think he's a *beep* peasant!"

see you at the movies baby...

It's certainly not a masterpiece but any comedy which takes on colonialism and features the last ever performance of Leonard Rossiter is worthwhile. And the theme song is top notch!

peter sellers' last film (THE FIENDISH PLOT OF FU MANCHU) was terrible & just cos it was his last effort it doesen't constitute a piece of merit.
this film is worse.

"what do you think of him?"
"i think he's a *beep* peasant!"

Old thread, but I'll chime in here and say I find this movie entertaining. It is an unusual movie and its pace isn't on a par with...Pacific Rim or Mission Impossible, exa. but it has its funny moments if you pay attention. Clearly not for everyone, but I watch it every so often. For those of you not having watched it, if you like satire, a few...cheesey but funny NTL quips, check it out.

Pacific Rim or Mission Impossible are garbage compared to this masterpiece.

Seriously, people seem to be pretty stupid this days and simply don't get it anymore.

A policital satire it is.

I guess most of the jokes are just awesome when you are weed smoking leftist rebel.
And yes i'm one and i was rolling and the floor laughing my arse off.

The only single bit boring and without a great joke for almost 3 minutes was the band aid concert at the UN building. But if you can't laugh about the capitalist water guy, the environmental blonde, the french garlic soldiers, the Che Guevara Rebel etc. i'm sorry for you.

reply

it's not one of the best films, but not one pf the worst either. it has some funny moments.
