Horribly underrated

I don't understand why this movie has such a low rating here. I've been watching Volunteers since I was a kid and I always loved it. Tom Hanks is brilliant in my opinion and he's the best part of the film. I also like how the movie takes weird turns into Indiana Jones territory. Yep. Pretty damn good. My only complaint about the film is that John Candy is a little wasted in his role, but he makes the most of it.

I totally agree. I just showed this film to my wife and a friend and it was funnier than ever. I love how it riffs from other films of the day like Temple of Doom. Tom Hanks is excellent as is Gedde Wantanabe. I think Tim Thomerson is great fun too. Him and "Mike". ^_~

I agree, this flick's quite underrated and much funnier than it gets credit for. And I'd disagree that Candy was wasted--I thought Tom Tuttle from Tacoma was pretty damn hilarious.

reply

Aye, it is truly underrated.

You mean it deserves a 3 not a 2?

What are they doing? Why do they come here?
Some kind of instinct, memory, what they used to do.

You bastard!

Totally agree. Some classic lines in it. Hanks was great

Can't be more agree with the OP!

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

By far one of the best comedies I've ever seen. Lawrence is da man in this. I own this, and I can't believe it when people say they've never seen it. So I love watching them watch Volunteers and laugh. Hidden gem!

Yep. It's a period piece. But it's a much better period piece than -many- of the Bill Murray/Harold Ramis-style movies of that era (on which it is obviously modeled.)

I give it an 8.
