TECHNICAL QUESTION - VHD

I originally saw this film in the mid-late eighties after it first released. I recall it being dark, but not unwatchably so.

Currently, Starz is showing this film and it seems incredibly dark, to the degree that some scenes are all black with only a fraction of image displayed. My question is: does anyone know if what's being shown is a bad transfer of the film, or is this how the DVD release also looks? The movie I remember was not like this. You could make out every scene.

Does anyone know if the DVD is clearer?

Thanks-

The DVD is very clear, i think its just your TV or Starz

I found the DVD MUCH too black-the VHS was a lot lighter and you could see all the details better. Too bad it can't be seen on the big screen-I saw this one at a film festival in 1991 and it knocks your socks off on the big screen and with proper lighting. It was the hit of the festival and had to be shown again. Sadly,I didn't catch Bloodlust on the big screen but it was likely just as great!

I agree with you. I own both of the VHD movies on both VHS and DVD. My VHS says right on it that is digitally remastered, but my DVD doesn't say that anywhere on it, so I think that that may be why VHS seems to be so much more clear than the DVD. I know it isn't the TV, because I have compared both the DVD and VHS on a few different TV sets, plus even on my computer with the brightness maxed out some scenes on the DVD are still almost completely black.
