Absolutely not true.....

It depends on when you purchased your DVD's. Even a month can make a difference.

Both of the "Vampire Hunter D" DVD's are literally becoming harder and harder to obtain by the day (literally - BY THE DAY!) As of a month ago, Amazon.com was pretty much one of the only places on the Internet that generally had them in stock (on a semi-regular basis). Now, both DVD's carry an average wait time of around 1-3 weeks. Unfortunately, this usually means "the title is no longer available". It seems most of the Internet anime specialty shops are following suite, as this recently happened with the Volume 6 "Fullmetal Alchemist" collector tin - just two weeks ago it was available at many Internet and brick and mortar businesses. As of this very moment, it is now considered "no longer available" and some are listing it as "OOP" (Out-Of-Print). It's now extremely difficult to find (but not impossible).

Just one month ago (the middle of September), I was going to purchase the two "Vampire Hunter D" DVD's for myself and for my son to enjoy as a "Halloween anime" treat. Unfortunately, I didn't purchase them when I originally thought to. I tried to purchase them just last Tuesday (10/24) - a little over a month later - and was told by an Amazon.com representative that they PROBABLY wouldn't be able to receive any more from the distributor. In most cases, as stated, having to wait "weeks" for almost any DVD title - even anime from Amazon.com - is a dead giveaway for the dreaded "OOP" (ESPECIALLY with anime). I even tried some of the Internet anime specialty shops but to no avail. Every time my wife goes to a bookstore or someplace that sells anime DVD's, I have her keep a lookout for them.

Just by chance, two days later on Thursday (10/26), my wife took me and our son to a bookstore I haven't been to in a while. My son and I went straight to the anime section and guess what? My son, of all people, found BOTH "Vampire Hunter D" DVD's. They both looked like they had been sitting on the shelf for awhile and the cardboard insert box of the second one was a little beat up but at least they were both shrink-wrapped and new. I'm just happy to have them - period.

The moral of the story is: just because you buy something today doesn't necessarily mean it'll be available tomorrow as well.

Ebay!!! I bought mine there last year, and i got both movies for 4 dollars. It cost me more to have it shipped from the US to Canada, then to buy the movies.

I got Vampire Hunter D off Ebay for about $20(a bit pricy but I've been wanting to own it again for years). I got Bloodlust at a local video store for $14 used. A bit steep there too but I wanted it for my collection as well. Two very good movies.

I remember buying the VHS back in '94 or '95 [ When animé was my world ]. Ah, those were the days! =D Project A-Ko, Dragon Half, Dominion: Tank Police, Cutey Honey, Venus Wars, Iczer 1, Robot Carnival, Twilight Of The Cockroaches, etc. rocked my senses. I could go on and on.
