The most unbelievable part of this movie is...

Morgan surviving. Love James Spader in this movie and of course I'm glad he got a relatively happy ending but man, was he asking for it or what? Nick is a total loser but the fact that Morgan survived the first incident on the street was one thing. Then Morgan messes with Frankie at the warehouse, tricks Nick into getting arrested for stealing the car he stole, takes Frankie for an all day joy ride in Nicks own car and then just gets a couple beat downs when Nick specifically said he'd "ice him" if he goes near Frankie again?

reply

Shows how much of a pretender Nick was really. He never does anything more than be a low level thug and bully. A legend in his own mind.

I think Morgan gave them something to kick as well, someone they could play with like the way some kids might pull the legs off a spider. In some ways Nick is pushed to do worse because of Morgan. The scene where Morgan's dad is shot never would have happened if Morgan backed off like he was told.

So is Nick just a thug due to his unfortunate life and is Morgan the real bully who has the benefit of education and upbringing to appear the victim? He did after all start everything when he rode by on his bike and spray painted Nick's gang...

Well, Nick and Co. were mugging a dirty old man. You would just think sooner or later Morgan would have wised up OR an actual attempt on his life (which could have been thwarted somehow) would have been made rather than yet another beat down and threat. I guess it's not too much of a stretch that Nick was all talk, UNTIL her realized that Frankie gave it up to Morgan.

reply

They were mugging someone and they weren't good people, I was being facetious to an extent. But yes, as the new kid in a strange town you would think Morgan would have not gotten involved to begin with and then wised up at some point, well before the beat down.

I agree, Nick was low level until Morgan threatened his relationship (and took her virginity) with Frankie and then it became personal for him.

I agree...I was also being facetious about the dirty old man part...he didn't deserve to be mugged, but he was a pervert! LOL.

reply

Yeah but the way Frankie looked, the clothes she was wearing, the hair, in the street at that time? He just wanted to make sure she had somewhere safe for the night.

You've got a point. Kind of like an SJW in today's world, acting like a self-righteous victim but is really the bully.

Although Morgan was a lot more subtle and charming about it, maybe it was just an 80's mind games thing.

reply

Yeah SJW's are often the bullies who try and claim victim status but their time is coming to an end.

Watching this in the 80's I don't think I ever really saw Morgan as a wise a$$ who should have minded his own business. But watching it now it's a different story.

Still a great film though.

In reality I think the gang would have shot Morgan as he was riding away on his bike or mowed him down in Nick's car. For a group of thugs they actually show a lot of patience.

reply

And at the end he goes up against them with pellet guns! If Jimmy (Downy Jr) didn't turn up with the dogs at the end he would have been toast.

Morgan's father cops it the worst and all because Morgan has to play white knight with blondie.
