Did anyone here who saw the film just love the St Paul Minnesota scenery? The city looked excellent when cathy and bryon are making out near university. Everything looked a lot cleaner back in 85, haha. Just thought Id shout out to all the minnesnowta folks like me.

I've never seen the Twin Cities look better. You didn't even see traffic jams! Funny to think that Charlie is suppose to be buried at Fort Snelling!
The book, of course, takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma though. Circa late 60s, early 70s. - It was more budget friendly for Paramount to shoot the movie in Viking country. I'm not sure why. The three other Hinton movies were all shot in and around Tulsa.

I think it also had something to do with Emilio. I'm pretty sure he's a Minnesota pioneer, even though born in new york, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him in MN every once in awhile. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe when he had to return to MN to shoot the mighty ducks he despised every person in sight.

I heard that Emilio loved the Twin Cities. Allegedly, he had a cabin north of Saint Paul at one point, so I've heard. I'm not sure if he still does though.
Are you aware of anything like that?

I just searched and searched but didn't find much about anything. I've been trying to get exact filming locations. I wonder if the building they used for charlies tavern is still up and standing. I'm sure the bowling alley is as well.

No. I haven't heard anything more either.
Everything is speculation now. I haven't heard anything about Emilio visiting the Twin Cities in a long time now. If he's still visiting, then he must be doing it 'under the radar'.

I was there as an Extra for some of the night 7pm to 6am filming at Charlies Bar on 7th Street back in 1984 and could not remember where the exact intersection,so thanks to you it narrows that down to where it was. The All American Bowl was on or near Como in St Paul and last I heard it was no longer a Bowling Alley or it was gone completely. Thanks for the info on Charlie's Bar. It was the All-American bowling center and bar in St. Paul. The fight scene at night where Curly and the rest get into it was shot outside a warehouse a few hundred yards away.
We had a great time shooting the film around there.

I'm in the movie and was a special featured extra. I'm from St. Paul, and I'm one of the guys sitting at the table with Curly (Minnesota actor Matt Dudley) in the lunchroom scene. We were considered Curly Shepard's gang. I'm also in the bowling alley scene, the dance scene at the high school, and a host of other locations. I've also appeared as an extra in "Purple Rain", "Jingle All The Way" and "Fargo".

The comic book store was the old Shinders Book Store on Wabasha St (Downtown). The location has long been closed.
The Douglas House is located on Fremont, just west of Maria in the Daytons Bluff are. It has been repainted many times. I believe now it is a purple color.
The Hospital were Cathy worked was the old Midway Hospital.

I was an Extra too at the bowling alley,Charlie's Bar and Calhoun Square. I would really like to talk with you and share some stories from the set. I drove all the way from Dallas to be an Extra in the movie back in 1984.
