7th grade class

Hi I am a 7th grade language arts teacher, and my class has just finished reading The Outsiders. We watched the movie and they loved it. Now I am looking for a novel to read with them that has a good movie to go with it. We were going to do Rumble Fish but the movie is too bad. MY principal suggested this novel; however the movie is rated R and I am not sure why it is. IMDB does not have a parental reason why on the website and I ned help. Can someone tell me what all this movie has and if it could be appropriate. Thank you very much.

Rumble Fish has adult situations and language and is not recommended for the younger viewing crowd. I love the film though. That Was Then This is now is also for adults or High School. Tex by S.E.Hinton is a good film but has some violence,drug/alcohol situations so it may not be appropriate either for a younger crowd.

That was then, this is now could be rated PG-13. There isn't anything really bad in it.

Yes, this is pretty tame by today's standards. 'That was then, this is now,' would be fine to show your class after reading the book. However, just to be safe, grab a copy and watch it at home first.
