Richard Farnsworth Horse Dance?

I'm sure we all remember and loved the part where Richard Farnsworth's character (Foster) was riding Sylvester in the moonlight getting him to dance! But I heard he was riding a Andalusian Stallion for that part.

It's either an Andalusian or an upper level dressage horse. Horses that compete even at Advanced to four star level eventing (which is 3 stars lower than what Sylvester was competing at as Prelim is a one star event), they do not have to do any passage or piaffe, as shown in that sequence. It was still beautiful and as a coach and equestrian of over 40 years, my friends and I still love this movie--quirks and all :D

I liked that scene too.

It gave Foster credibility to know what he was talking about! He did not do it in front of people to show off, in any form. It went a long way to show how he was much more than an old broken down cowboy. If I remember correctly, it was the only time Foster was even shown on a horse.

Doing that sequence in the moonlight made it nearly impossible to see if it was really Farnsworth doing the riding, so I suspect it was actually another rider.

'cred though...
