acting greats

I saw this movie when it originally aired. it was a very sad movie. can you imagine making a movie for the big screen with three great actors like marsha mason, paul sorvino and ellen burstyn? all 3 great talents in one movie.

Not to mention River Phoenix.

Or even mention Heather O'Rourke, in the part that definitely showed that she was somethin' more than just the terrified Carol Anne Freeling. Her nomination as "Best Young Actress" was really deserved. A real pity that she didn't earn the award, even worse her senseless & tragic ending. At least she made her dream of playin' a different character come true. There was life beyond Poltergeist (at both sides of the light) .

Here I am. Catch me if U can.

Molly was the only one who I did not get a chance to talk to when this movie came to my hotel. She and Paul stayed at the Waterford while everybody else and the crew stayed at The Hilton NW. We knew the cast was coming in and we knew it was going to be a circus for a couple weeks. Imagine walking in and seeing William Windom at the front desk smoking a big stoggie. I walked up and he was having a conversation with our night manager. I then asked how his stay was going and he said that the battery in his smoke alarm was dead. So maintenance was changing it has he made a nocturnal visit at the desk. After the maintenance man got off the elevator William got on. He stood in the middle puffing on his cigar as the doors closed. That image is burned in my head. I remember Heather walking in to see how her dailies went. Wow, she walked in like it was just another girl. I only got a glimpse of Molly when she showed up for the wrap party. There was talk that she may move over because she had complained about jewelry being taken at the Waterford. So I got to go out to the set a few times to take guards or pick up people who were not actors. Union rules wouldn't let us transport any cast members but we could take out gaffers, etc. I got to sleep at the set where the suicide took place. The front yard and garage was filled with brutes. We had a policeman with us also that night because they told us there was more than a million dollars of rented equipment on site. But the nice part was that the craft services had rented a pepsi fountain dispenser and a cooler of hot dogs that were ready made. OMG I never ate more hot dogs and pepsi in all my life. I knew how to change the canisters so we wouldn't run out. The scene of the suicide was shot at a house with a 3-car garage but on film you see a 2-car garage. So when you see the camera angles you can see that they put the camera in the 3rd garage not seen in the movie. They turned an old bank into the Piedmont police station where Zach is arrested after the chase. The fight takes place at what is now a suchi bar. The scene at school was at Casady School. They have a college like exterior with pond. All of the houses in the film were in Nichols Hills. It was a fun project. They had a cast party in our cabana pool and security was very tight. River walked into our restaurant to get a coke and he liked our Nieman print of the Olympics. So the manager made me take it down and wrap it up for him. A teamster then picked it up and dropped it while going out the door. But it was ok. So I wonder what ever happened to that print.
