Do you think John Candy really hurt his leg?

I was just thinking the injured leg was just thrown in. But I did love how he was on his chutches and spilled the ice tea when he saw the woman with the bikini on LoL. John was sure thin in this movie, the smallest I have ever seen him. I miss him, sad how the world takes them away so fast.
