Something I don't get

Why wouldn't John Candy's character be angry with his wife for meeting a total stranger at a movie theater, exchanging phone numbers with him, and excepting an invitation to go out on his boat with him?

Are we supposed to believe he's just a nice guy with no ulterior motives like eventually dancing horizontally with his wife?

Some may argue that he did invite the whole family (husband included) but seriously, why else would he invite a family of complete strangers who he knows nothing about on his boat if NOT for physical attraction to the wife?

You know some people are just nice without other motives...

I think the bigger question is what kind of weirdo accepts an invitation to go out on a boat with a complete stranger?

That's messed up.

Might be true if she had, in fact, excepted the invitation but she actually accepted it.

People have not agreed with me here but the guy acted very gay in my opinion. The way he folded his arms and never hit on chesters wife. I assumed he was gay all this time.

apparently there some more scenes with the wife and John L character but were cut. Maybe an sex affair plot cut. I think the wife was attractive, looked great in a bikini. I thought mom was flirting with the lifeguard when she took of her robe outside the beach house. Also, the guys on beach were checking out the mom and daughter when they were walking on beach. The mom looked back at one guy on the left and said to daughter that the guy was cute.
