john larroquette gay????
can someone tell me if john larroquette is supposed to be gay or not, they don't say it ever but it is implied pretty strong, imo.

shareyeah, i know but because it's john candy's wife it seems like they made him gay so he wasn't screwing with her. the way he folds his arms and acts the way he does, it just seems implied to me because it is a family movie.
shareThat makes no sense. He is supposed to be perceived as a sort of threat to John Candy's masculinity. Basically, the entire first half of the movie is John Candy's emasculation. He finally "comes into his own" and can really show his family that he's a champ (Carl Reiner style) by exhibiting his expertise as a sailor.
I think John Larrogquette is presented as a "smooth operator" who has a boat and clearly seems to be of greater interest to John Candy's family than John Candy.
i can't remember where i heard or read it, but larroquette and candy's wife where actually having an affair after they meet at the theater(i think). again i cant remember where i saw or heard this but it was either deleted scenes or in the original screneplay that this happens. i love this movie but it kinda ticked me off that she would do that to candy's character.
shareI always thought that it was implied that Don was trying to make time with Sandy, but it's not actually a sub plot. Remember, Jack is invited to be with them every time they go out, but he's sneaking off to learn to sail.

He doesnt make any time with her at all though. Its totally platonic. There is no come on and not even a pass. At the end as he is watching the boat race he looks totally gay with his arms folded. I dont see any scene in the film where john candy is threatened by him.

I thought it was little weird that mom and the kids went on Don's boat without the Dad. I thought the mom was flirting with lifeguards too on the outside the house on the beach. Sandy looked good in bikini

Also, the guys on beach were checking out the mom and daughter when they were walking on beach. The mom looked back at one guy on the left and said to daughter that the guy was cute.
