Spoiler: what a huge jack@$$

Seriously, that Al guy was a giant jack@$$. He's worshipped by the whole town and when Jon Candy character complains he just acts like a spoiled brat.

Then after John Candy carelessly bangs up his boat he just complains more instead of acting like adults and trying to figure out how to fix it.

Then he kicks John Candy out of his summer house.

I'm glad John Candy beats him in the end.

John Candy is a serious workaholic who hasn't even heard of a VACATION, worked as an air controller for 7 years, then goes on this vacation later finds out he's in the wrong vacation house and the real house isn't that great, afterwards he still makes the best of it.

He gets a horrible sun burn and injures his knee and has in a plaster LLC for 4-5 days but still holds his head up high and still tries to make the best out of the vacation

Al is some spoiled little winner who has most likely just very easily won the race for 7 straight years. His passion is nothing more than a gift from God. He's flauntence with those powers. He never had to climb all the greasy little wrungs like John Candy did in just the one lone summer.
