Nice score, but...

I enjoyed the score a lot because it brought back all the sounds of the 80s. However, it's clearly derivative of the Beverly Hills cop soundtrack from the previous year.

The composer of that score, Harold Faltermeyer, was busy doing the soundtrack for Fletch, which came out just a few weeks after this Burt Reynolds film. But Barry deVorzon did a pretty good job of imitating the style.

You just have to love those analog synth bass lines.

I would love it if someone would release this score on CD. I am such a sucker for electronic scores, especially those from the 1980's. What does it take to get a movie like this a soundtrack release anyway?

Demand, LOL... ;)

Now if that bastard so much as twitches, I'm gonna blow him right to Mars.

Actually I suspect this was a Yamaha DX-7 bass. They were all the rage at the time.

I see the video on Youtube all the time now. I dunno how that works copyright-wise, but it's all there if one wants that lo-res experience.

I for one like this score a LOT more than the Beverly Hills movies. It's a -lot- less frivolous sounding and (mostly) fits the action really well.

For a -very- derivative use of this 'sound', check out 'Commando'.

Why? I came into this game for the action, the excitement... Listen, kid, we're all in it together.

I agree it was very effective.
