I must admit, the farting zombies were a real treat, and a first for me.
They ripped off evil dead, but I don't really care anymore.
I see alot of pictures who rip off each other and are good in there own right, it's only show's like the matrix who make billions of dollars out of faulty ideas that rip off viewers, movies like spookies made nothing.

shareThere was no intention to actually rip anyone off - though many, many, many elements of the script were dictated by someone who was not actually involved in the writing (as loopy as that concept is!), so who knows where THOSE ideas came from (I think we now have a good idea).
As originally planned, the Muck Men did not fart - and the scene was much more elaborate - though wretched "editing" made the scene far worse than it was, or had been before it got re-edited.
Sadly, the mess did indeed make money - for someone.
That was the greatest scene in the movie. If not for it, I probably wouldn't remember this movie at all, some 10-15 years after seeing it.
It was great, though... My friends and I were bored, had been drinking, it was a weeknight, nothing to do. We decide to rent a movie, grab some more beer and just get drunk at the apartment I was living in at the time.
So, a friend of mine, Hugh, ends up renting this movie and bringing it over. We knew it was going to be a B-movie from the start, but... Eh, we had nothing else better to do.
Maybe it was the beer.
It got to the zombie farting scene and we were all silent. Then someone finally asked, "What is that noise?", and we all went silent again, listening. The scene seemed to last forever. Finally, someone else said, "I think they're... farting?" and we all proceeded to laugh our asses off througout the rest of the movie... Because those zombies were farting, dammit.
From time to time over the next few years someone would always bring up those "farting zombies from Spookies!" and bring up a good laugh amongst us who saw it that night.
Crappy movie that it is, I do have a soft spot for it.

It's neither - perhaps in its original incarnation - but Twisted Souls was raped by incompetent opportunists (some from the porno industry), with new footage added and pathetic editing and sound effects added destroying a fun, small b-movie.

it made my day, lol. I just watched it for the first time (for shame) and omg I was already loving this crazy film but the farting muck men ... wow. I'll treasure this film forever.
Why don't they still make movies like this? Just utter silliness and so much to love :)
When the muck man gets hit and starts making stunted farting noises, I couldn't help but laugh a little. That whole scene was just bizarre.
