Influence on David Lynch

Anyone else think this was an influence on David Lynch?

In Twin peaks, the story of Laura Palmer, the rebellious young blonde teenager going out to bars and meeting an unpleasant fate, is very similar to this and the short story it was based on.

Also, Lynch has used Laura Dern in several of his movies, and the scenes in Wild at Heart between her and Willem Dafoe as Bobby Peru are very similar to her scenes with Treat Williams in this.

I just read the short story and I immediately pictured Harry Dean Stanton in the role of the killer who has worked with David Lynch who has worked with Laura Dern who starred in this film.

Perhaps but that scenario of rebellious teenage girl going out at night meeting an unpleasant fate is old as the beginning of time. Lynch could've definitely seen this film and cast Dern in Blue Velvet based on her performance in this.
