saw it in the theater at the time several times. many times since, to the point i still know the dialogue by heart.

Is it an all-time classic? For me, it's more a minor classic. It's a bit light on character development; although it relies on conventions without becoming cliched, it's a bit simplistic in its morality. All in all, however, a fine film
It's in my list of favorite Westerns. I always have to put "The Big Country" first. Great cast, epic story (even though it only covers a few days), top cinematography, and a hero who never shoots a gun at a bad guy. "High Noon" is in there, and we love "McClintock" ... which doesn't really even have a bad guy ... just some annoying people.
sharei actually just seen it for the 2nd time and it did not hold up for me personally as i find it pretty average/forgettable now. it's not bad or anything though but overall it's not a movie ill care to see again at this point.
