Seriously, would you..

Go out and shoot off fireworks at a pier somewhere IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT when there has been some lunatic killing tons of people during the night, your best friend included?

Go out and collect bottles/cans for the medcu drive door to door just to look for a one eyed man or woman?

Go check out Reverend Lowe in THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND ALONE? Why not just wait until morning and take back-up?

You have a point.

Marty is a young teenager... they do dumb $hit that puts themselves in danger.

The other two you can chock up to neither Jane nor the sherriff taking the story they were told seriously until they find evidence to prove said story. If it's not credible then why take backup? But dumba$$ should have had a radio with him to call for backup when he needed it.

In the book, Marty shoots the fireworks off in his backyard, just off the porch. IMO, that's clearly being more careful than going to a bridge far from his house.

As for Jane and the Sheriff, they didn't believe Marty's story so they didn't feel a need to be cautious. As well, Jane was going around in daylight. She likely figured that even if Marty's story was true, she'd be safe in daylight.

he sneaks out, makes it to is strategically placed gas guzzling wheel chair. Then movie cuts to a scene of him ripping down the street in that loud arse chair. As if to say, course his parents didn't hear him start that thing up. I love this movie.

I've always kinda thought that too. More on the subject, if the loud wheelchair didn't cause enough ruckus to draw the werewolf's attention, then the fireworks sure did. Marty was just asking for death that night.

More specifically why did his uncle give him the fireworks and encourage him to go do that. Imagine being the uncle and trying to explain that to Marty's mom. I can imagine that being a very awkward conversation for the uncle.

I'd just stay home and wait for news updates online or on TV or the radio. I'd be terrified to venture outside in this situation.

Then again, it's a movie. I can use my imagination and suspend disbelief in such situation. If it was "real life" than it would probably be boring as hell.
