Content

I would really like to know if this is appropriate for my 12 year old son. I would like to rent all of the films in Criterion's '4 by Agnes Varda' collection and would like to know what inappropriate content are in these films:
-La Pointe-Courte
-Cleo From 5 to 7
-Le Bonheur
-Vagabond
Thank you ahead of time.

It's not the film for the 12 year old. He won't understand anything and will be bored. Why should he watch it? Just enjoy it by yourself, and enjoy it greatly!

Concerning your question about "unappropriate" scenes: Mona swims nude at the beginning of the film, being shown from a safe distance; a few "sophisticated" postcards some people watch - for a split second; mature man crawls out from Mona's tent, lifting his trousers up; uhmmmm.. what else? Ah, drug use for a few times... OH, YES! The lady taking bath! You may see her breasts (very beautiful!) closely; another topless beauty shown very close... but she's the most disgusting character, up to undecency.

I wish you a most pleasure! It's an outstanding work. At what time your kid goes to sleep?

About Cleo: a beautiful woman poses nude in an artists' studio, we can see her from the back; there are some decent scenes that are hard to watch.

Just to tell you, my 12 year old son loved the first 20 minutes of Cleo from 5 to 7 and 8 1/2 is one of his favorite movies. He loves subtitled films and has only ever encountered one film that (well, that he told me) bored him and that is Semi-Pro. He loves Criterion and is very anxious to see this movie. The most adult films he has seen are Apocalypse Now and probably Fanny and Alexander (the Television version). He loved every second of each.

Anyway, thanks for the info. This one is probably too adult. How about Le Bonheur or La Pointe-Court. Thanks in advance.

Waw, your son is a smart guy, endowed with a good taste! The beginning of Cleo (the visit to a Fortune Teller) is an exciting piece.

I'm eager to watch Le Bonheur and La Pointe-Court I havent's seen yet.

Anyway, if you'll have the chance to watch Vagabond, I would be glad to read your impressions on this board.

Sorry for my so-so English.

For a few years now I have had closed-captions on my TV.

For ten years before that I watched many foreign films because they had sub-titles. The fact is, my hearing is very poor and I can't understand dialogue without them.

So I wonder if your son may have a hearing problem. It may be worth having it tested because poor hearing can affect one's social and educational development.

I must say that many film-makers do not seem to try very hard for dialogue sound quality. Just occasionally a gem arrives where speech on the screen is easily understood.
