To be fair, at the time of the satisfied looks, they did not know Apollo was dead, they just knew he was knocked out and beaten. Its not surprising they would be happy about their guy winning, its unlikely they knew he was dead at the time.
My guess is they wanted Apollo humiliated and hurt, but not necessarily killed outright.
However, they certainly exhibited no sympathy for his death at the press conference afterwards. Which was by design to keep the Russians the villains of the movie.
