Scariest kids movie ever!

This has got to be the scariest kids film! I remember being terrified of it as a child and even a teenager! I just watched it on Netflix (or tried to) but had to turn it off because my little boy was so scared!

The scariest scenes are the Hosiptal parts and the woman chasing after her when she tries to escape. But scariest of all ... The heads in the cupboards! And when she "wakes" it up and it shouts "DOROTHYYYYY!" And the headless body goes chasing after her! scary stuff for kids!

How far did your son get before you had to turn it off?

Luckily he didn't. Think I'll wait until he's at least 30 before I try to watch it with him again 😂

That link is a review my friend and I made after re-watching the movie.

I could never make it past the wheelies...I could sit through slasher films like Friday the 13th and Freddy at 8 years old but this one disturbed me.

Same here. Scariest film I ever watched as a kid. Had to leave the theater after the wheelies, and I've never felt the urge to try and finish it later. But after reading the high praise here on IMDb, I think I'll have to give it a try.

The wheelers scared me so bad as a kid that I had panic attacks. I ended up developing a fascination with the movie because of the trauma. It's one of my favorite movies now. Go figure.

I was 12 when it came out in 85 so I wasn't scared of it but I definitely thought it was creepy in parts. I actually liked that it was so much different then the original. Watching it now I love it.

The heads in the cupboards!

I remember seeing some of Return to Oz on TV when I was young and that's the part that freaked me out the most to the point that I changed the channel. This movie was mentioned in an article online recently and it made me think of trying to watch it now that I'm older.

According to reviews, this film is based on the original fiction, therefore, Baum liked darker themes for kiddie fiction. I have only partially read one of the books. But the scary stuff is not so bad, I am watching it now. But I am in mid life. I can imagine it would be disturbing for a child. There is a third OZ film that came out in 2013, starring Michelle Williams and James Franco. Critics panned it, but I thought it was entertaining.
