113 Minutes?!

There are 3 different run times listed here: 109 mins, 110 mins, and 113 mins. The version I've always had (on VHS as a kid and now on DVD as an adult) is 109 mins (on VHS, as I recall) and 110 mins (according to the DVD I have in my hand). Is there a director's cut I don't know about?! Where did IMDb get this information???

reply

No directors cut, the different run times are are an adjustment in frame rates, most film runs at 24 frames per second, vhs / dvd depending on Region is either 29.97 ntsc or 25 pal and blu rays tend to run at the native 24 fps. So a change in the fps shown would have an impact on the runtime.

There has been no blu ray release for Return to Oz, unfortunately. Hopefully a company will come along and give it a proper release with loads of special features. The only thing I can think of (aside from the FPS thing) is that the movie's deleted scenes that weren't included in the final film were later added for television presentations. This will happen from time to time with some movies.

Scratch that. Apparently it WAS released on blu ray a couple of years ago and I completely missed it! Pardon me as I make my way to Amazon.

Blu-ray is exclusively available on the Disney Movie Club. It's actually terrific cuz you get 5 Blu-rays for $1 each with obligation to purchase more over 2 years. But this Blu-ray sells for $50+ on eBay etc.
