OH its got to be "I hold up buses" and the way Will goes up the bus apologising for robbing them - pure class!
And the Biscuits, don't forget the biscuits

I think it has to be when the wee guy ( Angus Patterson ) goes into the joke shop and asks for a "Plastic Turd" and then slams the money down on the counter.

ps: That wee guy was me, however, they have not got my name in the cast list!!!......... Robin Brown

The bit about hiding in Penicuik. It's a long time since I've seen the film (will buy the DVD even if it means buying a region-hacked player to watch it, since the chance of a US Region 1 DVD must be about zero) so I can't remember the exact lines. I think it's the only time I've ever heard Penicuik mentioned in a film.

Oh, and for people looking for locations, I vaguely remember they used one of the Glasgow bus stations to substitute for the one in Edinburgh. No idea why.

AMFAE PENICUIK !

"Look - Penicuik. We could go into hiding in Penicuik. We could wear disguises to got to the shops"

I only found the DVD this afternoon, and was so chuffed, I danced around HMV in Princes Street - it wasn't pretty... I'm chuffed to bits, as my VHS original was worn through.

Al (another one;-))

Quite a few bits were filmed in Glasgow. For anyone who knows their Scottish geography, you can't just stroll out of Edinburgh and be in the HIghlands. They even used old Strathclyde Police cars.

You can get a US version from Amazon.

Near the end when they ride through Edinburger. The soundtrack to that part is great as well.

reply

The scenes filmed at Newhaven Harbour. How much has it changed there now!

reply

The whole soundtrack by Big Country is wonderful, such an important part of the film!

It was released as the B-side to two 12" singles (possibly "The Teacher" and "Look Away?") and I played it to death even before I'd seen the movie...

When the mother comes into the shop and gives Ronnie a right hiding with the squeeky club and Will is hiding with a pair of glasses and false moustache on.

reply

Yeah - it has to be the scene when the policeman comes into the shop. I just love the way he slowly looks around at everything. It makes you think - "Right... the police know these two guys wear masks when they're holding up the buses - and they sell masks there... right?"

The the cop walks up to the counter and says the classic line:

"Do you have any false tits?"

Superb!!!

I like the Bodie and Doyle reference. :)

2 favourite lines:

1) "We could go into hiding in Penicuik, no-one would find us there..."
2) "I could fair go a pee myself"

...and one favourite scene:

The bit near the end after they rode thru the streets of Edinburgh, the shot signifying them leaving the city and heading for the Highlands (houses on the left hand side, trees on the right and a hill ahead) was shot in Linlithgow, my home town at the top of Preston Road on the way up to Beecraigs Country Park!

PS the part when he first talks to Margot and he's walking backwards on the travelator was filmed at the old Buchanan Street bus station in Glasgow. I guess it was filmed there because of the travelator c'cos it's just funnier with it and Edinburgh Bus Station has never had one!

It's actually Anderson Bus Station my friend. It no longer exists sadly.

My Bad - can you tell I'm from Edinburgh?

My 1980s Glasgow knowledge is sketchy, especially as until I was about 15 I'd only been there about three times!

I remember seeing the film when I was young and always had a thing about it pretending to be in Edinburgh but being filmed in Glasgow.

I knew it was the old Bus Station but other than that just didn't really think about it!

Cheers musgy.

The bit when the old dear wants to book a tour on one of the buses thats gonna be hijacked.

Best pick up line in history:
You don't know me. You've never seen me before.....I hold up busses.

Don't forget the custody battle "You got the dog!"

The blackmailing children.

Any of the scenes robbing busses. And the Japanese TV crew chasing them over the highlands.
And the sheep running over the road to block the police chase. Anyone who's ever driven in the highlands can relate to that.
