Why is Conan on the cover of this movie?

This movie is about Red Sonja, not Conan, right?

reply

Yes the movie is about Sonja but Arnold was and is a lot more famous than Brigitte. Also, it's not really Conan, the character's name is Kalidor.

reply

Ok thanks. Does Arnold have a lot of screen time or is it just a guest appearance? Is Kalidor one of the main characters in the movie?

reply

Yeah he is one of the main characters. The movie is really bad though, just so you know.

reply

Thanks for the replies. I just have one more question...

Why does Kalidor look exactly like Conan?

reply

Quote from the trivia section: "Arnold Schwarzenegger's character was originally intended to be a reprisal of Conan, star of the comic book in which Red Sonja first appeared, but the film did not have the rights to this name."

So it was supposed to be Conan, however his past is completely ignored in this.

Just wanted to add that both Red Sonja and Conan the Destroyer were made by the same director (Richard Fleischer) only one year a part. Which tells me that a Red Sonja film with the inclusion of Arnold reprising his role as Conan was definitely the original plan (because they were hoping it would help sell more tickets and hoping it would help build a theatrical screen fan base for Sonja) until the producers realized they didn't own the rights to Conan, so the character was renamed Kalidor to avoid a lawsuit... problem solved, right? No, because their plan didn't work out so well. Red Sonja was both a critical and box office failure.

It makes sense why Kalidor's past is completely ignored because he's actually Conan with a different name in this movie.

I would also say that "Red Sonja" was nothing but a blatant attempt to shoehorn a movie into the successful Conan series. As a kid, I literally thought Conan showed up here, he quite looks the same and I never knew this character was named "Kalidor" until I read this thread. Sandahl Bergman was also in this and Conan as well.
