Does anyone know who actually sings this song, as I really want it. I know Debra Byrne sings it in the film, but I just cant find it by her, so if anyone knows please let me know.

I think Debra herself sings it. I'll have a look later on my copy of the film and see if it says she sung it or not. I know the soundtrack was available in the 80's but it was probably deleted cos the film was reviewed so badly. Dunno why, I liked it!

I would like a copy of this song, but am in England and cannot find it anywhere... No one has even heard of Anne Scnider or Debra Byrne.

I think you mean Annie Schilder. She's a Dutch singer and has sung this song a few years ago. But, believe me, compared to the version in the movie Rebel, this is really bad.
I'm really interested in the movie-version as well, so if anyone can help me with this, I'd really appreciate it.
"Anny Schilder" is the correct spelling: I found her and this song on Spotify. (Go figure...I find Anny Schilder but I can't find any decent Neil Young--they just have the crap from the Geffin Records years...but I digress.)
Anyway, I tried. I really tried to listen to the song. But...I'm sorry...but it's not much better than the movie (see other thread). No wonder I had never heard this song on the radio.

Unfortunately, I still haven't found it and I am usually good at tracking down such things, hehe! I actually think that I am not going to have any luck with this one, it's really frustrating, as I love this song so much! I will keep searching though, something will come up soon (I hope). If I find it I will let you know anyway :D

the soundtrack was available in the 80s on LP. I do not believe it ever to be available on CD. I still have it at home somewere. I shall have a look for it and maybe I can help you with this one.

I have been looking for this song to (for many years)and found it...I am a member of 360Share which is a cite where you can download music legally. I paid something like 17.00 for a year of unlimmited music. I have downloaded so many songs (over 300) in the last couple of months along with this one(you are my hero) as well.

there was a soundtrack (vinyl) available - I know for sure, because I own a copy!
shareDebbie Byrne released this song as a single in Australia. The soundtrack to the film was also released and it includes the full length version of Deb singing You Are My Hero.
The soundtrack album is still available in Australia so maybe try searching some Aussie sites...
