Laslo's Lair

Lazlo is a recluse who lives in the basement of the school, He gets there through a secret passage way with a motorized rollercoaster.

I have 2 questions

1) Before Mitch figured out where Lazlo goes and how, Why didn't he hear the loud motor running when Lazlo ducked into closet? Also Lazlo must've heard someone was coming when Mitch did find out.

1. The secret door in the closet would always close behind Lazlo when he returned to his lair, so it must have blocked the sound.

2. Lazlo had that machine stamping out contest entries right next to him when Mitch came in, which probably drowned out the sound of the motor.

Also: If Lazlo is the only one who uses the secret passage, wouldn't the car stay on his end when he's down there?

Now that's a good one! I can't think of a good answer.

Actually, maybe I can. Remember the scene outside where Mitch drops his books and Lazlo helps him pick them up? He stares at Mitch a few seconds, as though he senses a kindred spirit -- isolated, feeling left out. So maybe he arranged things so that Mitch would find his lair, including sending the car back up. That would also explain why he painted "This is it" on the inner wall.

Which brings up another question: When they were all working together later and Mitch, Chris, and Jordan were down in the lair with Lazlo, did they each have to come down one at a time in the car? I'm thinking the car was just for fun and there might have been another, more practical way of getting down there.

reply

Maybe it automatically goes back up to the top or maybe it was there just for the movie so we wouldn't have to wait for it to come back. Or maybe Chris used it last when visiting Lazlo.

Actually, it's the basement of the four "old" dorms at Caltech, known affectionately as "the infinite storeroom".
