the father
After the "incident" where Beck "gets it in the end" his father was a rather unsympathetic prick about his own son. Beck should've sicced the rapists on his father and the police captain.

shareThe fathers role was written as a one note act , Hingle had nothing to work with except act like a father who thinks his son is a wimp or maybe less of a man due to getting raped. He is not a man who loves his son and tries to understand , his thinking is one dimensional macho - I'm father to a son who likes it up the butt and that's that. Terribly written role.
As for the black police office who berates Beck, he should have been punched in the nuts. He thinks it's all Becks fault and the role is so terribly acted that I wanted to smack the crap out of the writers

It's the old school attitude that men don't or shouldn't get rape. If something happens to them, it's because they're less then men. Richard told his father that he didn't want to die and his father acts like it would have been better if he had.
Most people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you. Not anymore.

I think he should have told his ex-wife to talk to him, or even Barbara (somehow)...or his friend.
