Damn, I hated him in every sinlge scene. Now, I made the big mistake and watched this film in a bad german dubbing. His voice was VERY annoying. Maybe he is actually funny in japanese? Next time I'll watch it in japanese with subtitles. That's for sure.

Both Seven Samurai and ran, while historical films, were also party allegorical of modern times. As a matter of fact, many Japanese criticized Mifune's performance as Kikuchiyo as being "too modern" and "anachronistic", but that was quite deliberate and intentional on Kurosawa's part.
