I'm calling idle threat 

Possibly. Just by threatening Murdoc, Rambo took a very real risk of burning his congressional pardon he fought so hard to earn. But then again, how would Murdoc really know? We're talking about a guy who carries a REALLY big knife and just moved down half the Vietnamese army and a Soviet special forces unit while escaping from their clutches. Not to mention the burning down of an entire small town all by himself some years prior. I guess Murdoc just didn't wanna find out how much of a profanity Rambo gave at that point.

But it doesn't matter anyway. Even IF Rambo managed to convince Murdoc, the powers that be certainly would not authorize any new rescue missions because of just one scared senator. There's a good chance that Murdoc's career ended after this fiasco. They buried him and let Rambo go quietly just to make the whole thing go away.

So in that sense, yeah, an idle threat, since even Rambo wouldn't have the means to convince the entire senate.

It wouldn't have made much of a difference, as Rambo destroyed all of the computers that was keeping tabs on the whereabouts of the P.o.Ws. He shot himself in the foot with an M-60!

reply

Interesting point. Just how deep were the repercussions of destroying all the computers and their data? Did he do it solely as a metaphor to destroy the whole system? or did it have more to do with wiping his slate clean and the slate of the POW's he rescued?

Considering if anyone ever found out that Murdock abandoned POWs he would be in a hell of a lot of trouble I am guessing he's going to keep quiet about Rambo's threat.

Haha. We have gone on a tangent, however, there are implications of Rambo destroying all the computers that kept that data. I guess it was symbolic, however, Rambo still knows what Murdoch will do. YET, I guess one senator can't convince an entire movement, unless he goes public.

I kinda think Rambo 3 should have continued with these characters. I mean, I'm glad Rambo 3 exits, but imagine the character of Murdock being intertwined in that.

Murdock should have left the base as soon as he knew Rambo was returning with the POWs.

I always loved that scene when Rambo calls in that he's bringing in pow's, Murdoch looks absolutely petrified, almost to the point of soiling himself lol.
