You are poor and stupid. Get back in the kitchen you b*tch.

Is that the ending? That's how I took it at the end. Thoughts?

Ir was one of the best endings of any film released in the 80's. Classic.

My opinion is that it was trying to make a point that bad people do not always get what's coming to them. In the end, Irene was willing to sacrifice everything for Charlie but Charlie couldn't do the same for her. He chose his family instead. He killed a woman that loved him and then gets to live on happily ever after, or, more likely, for a little while until he loses interest in her, with Maerose.

He uses Maerose to get over Irene, same as he did earlier in the movie. That's what I liked about the arc of the Charlie character. It's one of those movies where you don't realize just how bad of a guy the lead is until the very end and then it intentionally pisses you off by not having him pay for his crimes.

It has been suggested in another thread that Irene committed suicide by missing Charlie deliberately. That has to be the only explanation because a professional assassin missing at that distance is ludicrous.

If that was the case, why did she book the flight to Hong Kong the day before? I think she intentionally missed to try and talk Charlie out of it and maybe persuade him to go away with her, but she tragically underestimated him.

IS THIS SOMETHING YOU CAN SHARE WITH THE REST OF US, AMAZING LARRY?!?!

hmmmmmm, nice explanation, but I think she knew she was at the end. Also, she knew Charlie better than to think that he would give everything up for her. She missed on purpose, knowing what Charlie might do, and he did. Anyway that's my take on it.

reply

I don't believe for a second she missed on purpose. They both moved at the same time, the reason she missed is because Charlie sat up to throw the knife just as she pulled the trigger. They even played it in slow motion so you would catch it. To think she missed on purpose is ludicrous.

Having watched the movie again last night, you are right mjb442olds. Charley sat up as Irene fired the gun and missed him.
