The police are assaulting Zed's old zoo compound to rescue Mahoney. Mauser had already flashed his captains bars and took Proctor up top to the air vent. Jones runs to position with gun fully brandished and orders in his real voice "Bad News baby! Everyone's under <FIRES GUN BLINDLY INTO CROWD> arrest!"
I always liked how that they were crazy and zany but were still some level a good officer. They are promoted throughout the series afterall
At least Jones knew there were gang members down there. What about earlier in Sweetchuck's shop, where Tackleberry walks in, has no idea what's been going on, and just starts firing at random objects in the shop? And then Kirkland comes in right behind him, and starts spraying the shop with machine gun fire? (Really, a motorcycle cop with a machine gun?) I always thought that was absolutely the worst example of negligence anyone in any Police Academy movie has ever displayed.

Being that Jones was always the sound effect comedy relief, I just somehow expected more...

I saw it as an example of their overzealous attitudes (another being their comically-detailed descriptions of their firearms). Like the accident-causing Fackler, they were screw-ups, just in a different way.
I totally agree with you Smoko.
I just thought Jonesy while inappropriate with his voice work, was responsible at least with firearms. Just my own personal opinion.
