How was the Gang able to get their charges filed against them dropped?

reply

THEY didn't. It was part of Mauser's scheme to discredit Lassard and have him sacked. He knew that if the gang were put in prison Lassard would keep his job. So Mauser had them released on very dubious grounds. This was the first evidence that Mauser was not only an arse kisser but also a bent cop.

"I'm not really me. Thats me there- that pile of albino mouse droppings!"

reply

I kind of did figure that Mauser was the reason why the gang was released from jail, that was where I've really stopped liking Mauser.

reply

They had Johnnie Cochran as their lawyer. No, seriously, I have the feeling that Mauser was behind that in that he realized how the gangs were arrested and just lied about it to make Pete look bad. Personally, I can't see anything bad happening. Mauser basically just looked for some wacky excuse to get the punks off so Pete Lassard would look bad and quit and then he could take over.

reply

Well just playing the bad guy a second here.. Mahoney did issue their Miranda rights wrong and on top while UNCONSCIOUS. That alone would see the charges dropped.

reply

Well they do have right to sing the blues. If anything Mahoney gave them more rights than under standard Miranda. =D

"I hate to say this, but this place is getting to me. I think I'm getting the Fear."

reply

Who cares if they were unconscious? Actually, I have the feeling they could hear what Mahoney was saying.

reply

Finally someone that talks some sense! He let them go as he realised that most of the charges would not stick AND he wanted to make the new cadets look bad, so that Lassard would get kicked out and he would be the new captain. He would have turned out better police officers AND cleaned up the city in record time.

reply

He wasn't being serious. In fact this day and age miranda warnings are now giving in writing at the station in order for them to be official. However once you get the bracelets put on you they should give you the verbal warning.

reply

"Excessive use of force" was the expression used. And yes, Mauser was the one who did it. Considering how Hightower was able to get the gang out, I would say it was "excessive"!
