How was her accent?

I thought she sounded convincingly English...no slips at all. I think this is the only film she did a british accent in. She did one in The French Lieutenant's Woman as well.

I was in college when the film was released and I remember there were write ups and articles on the brillance of her accent in the movie. It was an exciting time, for everyone in film making knew that Meryl had forever raised the bar in film acting.

I just rewatched this and her accent is often off actually. Too studied and lapsing into her own accent and even South African English at times. I honestly can't think of anyone apart from Cate Blanchett in Notes on a Scandal who's delivered a convincing English accent in a film.

I agree! I came on here to find out what her accent is supposed to represent. To me, it sounded like a French person who was raised bilingual in France.

LOL! Anything but.🐭

I thought Gwyneth Paltrow managed a pretty good accent in 'Sliding Doors'.
