People Thought I Was Crazy!!

I was sitting around with friends one night and my friend was talking about someone having long hair but made the stupid comment they had "long ass hair" for some reason this triggered my memory of this movie. I asked my friends if they remembered a movie about kids wanting to grow hair and came up with a peanut butter mix and then they put it in some strange places if you know what I mean. I said the movie had other story lines but that one stuck out. They all looked at me like I was crazy. Finally after an hour of searching I found it here. I am not obviously alone. I was probably 6 or 7 when I saw this movie. I would have been 5 in 1985 so I really don't think I would have seen in when I was 5. I would love to see it again and show them I was right.

reply

we are almost the same age and people thought I was crazy too!!! Nobody knew what the hell I was talking about.;..lol.

reply

I was born in '85, and I remeber seeing this. I remember the hair coming out of the dude's pant leg hehe..

There's only one movie left on my list that I can't for the life of me find or remember the name of, and I've been googling so many different key words, and still have nothing to show for it.

reply

What is the one movie left on your list? Describe please.

I was just talking about this movie at work the other day and NO ONE knew what I was talking about. I was about 6 when the movie came out and I remember it scaring me to death. I am so glad that there are other people out there that hae seen this movie and that I didn't just make it up in my mind. The one part that sticks out for me is when the boy is walking to school or someplace and his hair gets stuck in the tree. That's really all I remember except that someone made paintbrushes out of the hair or something like that!

The same thing happened to me and my friend tonite and i dont know how it even came up..i think because we were talking about that book "how to eat fried worms" , a book from my childhood and it got me to thinkin about peanut butter...its weird how this movie has been on our minds around the same time!! this movie used to bug me out

reply

I looked for this movie for ten years before I finally found it last monday! My mother kept asking me if I was sure I hadn't dreamed about it. I feel like I won the lottery. Hooray for google and having free time at work!!

reply

Holy crap I thought I remembered this movie when I was a kid for years and thought maybe I dreamed of it. The I finally brought it up one night and someone else was like "YES! your the only pther person I know to remember this movie!" Im glad we all had the same problem, its funny how things turn out.

reply

I remembered it very vaguely too, and it scared the crap out of me as well, also I was born in 1980. I could always remember the hair and the kids being imprisoned but it wasn't until right now 1am that I'm eating peanut butter on toast while trying to write an essay that I knew the keyword to type to find it, creepy... One more movie it's been driving me nuts for awhile it's a kid or something and he's got head phones on, in one side is a frog and the other is a bird the frog makes a base noise and the bird tweets. Plus at the end something happens there's like a puzzle or something and a witch or a lady puppet that is bad. Any of that ring a bell. Or perhaph's one where they go under ground and hang out with mushrooms and there is a broken mirror or something that cast's an infinate amount of reflections (both cartoons the first possibly jap animation).

reply

The first cartoon is Unico. You can look him up on Wikipedia.
Not sure about the second.

reply

Yes! I can't believe someone else remembers Unico! I used to love unicorns and my brother was into Japanese animation so he introduced me to Unico -- too weird for a little girl, even if the unicorn was cute and sweet.

reply

sounds like The movie Puff the Magic dragon Do u guys remeber that movie!

reply

The first movie is definitely Unico and you can watch the whole freaky thing on YouTube (that movie scared the crap out of me...living puppets <shudders>). The second could be The Mouse and His Child. I don't recall the mushroom part at all, but there is an underwater scene with multiple reflections. Also scary. It is weird how these odd little things leave such a lasting impression and stay in our memories for so long.

reply

they used to show this crap on Disney Channel. That's Right!

I remember because I specifically ONLY watched Nickelodeon and Disney Channel as a kid, and Nick didn't show movies.

reply

I will admit I have not read everything in this thread, but when I read your post it struck a chord with me... I remembered a cartoon about four or five kids going underground to find their baby brother "pollywog" into a land of mushrooms, ogres, trolls and the like. I remember them haveing green paint so they could dye their skin green to blend in... It was called THE SECRET OF OG....or THE SECRET WORLD OF OG ... somthing like that. Anyway it does not have it's own page on IMDB because it was a 30 min movie on ABC's SATURDAY MORNING SPECIAL, with O.G. READMORE! It took me a while to figure out the right words to finding it on google. anyway, I think thats what you're looking for. If you havn't already been helped.

Just a suggestion to everyone out there trying to dig up old movies from their childhood, check out your local libraries (if they still have a VHS section). I stumbled upon this film as well as a few others: Treasures Of The Snow, Mountain Family Robinson, Making Contact, etc.

We're your friends, we're not like the others man, really

reply

I actually have the book "The secret world of OG" I didn't know anyone had adapted it. It seems to me that it's fairly old and had belonged to my father who's now in his 60s.

reply

a similar situation happened to me.

reply

That's so funny. The same thing happened to me and a friend of mine as well. I was just remembering this movie a couple of days ago and then I went out to dinner with some friends and on the ride home, one of my friends started talking about remembering a peanut butter movie. I had thought that it was just a weird dream that I had, but sure enough, he remembered it too (we both remembered the paintbrushes and the hair coming out of the pant leg), so he looked it up and sent me the title. I've got to find this somewhere now!

reply

hahahah I thought it was a weird dream I'd had too!!!!

reply

i have to throw out yet another "word" to this post. people thought i was nuts. except my little brother. but we had almost gotten to the point where we thought maybe it was a memory we concocted together.

reply

Omg. I cant believe I finally found that this movie actually exists and its not a mysterious thought in my head anymore. As a kid I was sooo extremely disturbed by this movie. I had nightmares when I was growing up and it always seemed to go back to this one movie. Not much movies scare me so this had to have something about it. I always tried to find it again in the video store but I never could put a name to it. I had asked so many people about this movie, they too thought I was crazy. Now I just cant wait to watch it again to see why it was so disturbing and to make sure if I have children they never watch a movie like this! I was creeped out for years and years! Horrible memories!

reply

I'm so surprised there's others out there like me. Have kept having flashes of this movie throughout my life. Have mentioned it to friends over the years, no one has ever had any idea of what i was talking about and they attributed it to my love for peanut butter...this of course led me to believe i had dreamt it. It's really exciting to see that others have had this same experience. Great movie. I think i also recall a part where there was a painting where there was a person moving in it along a path in the fields ? or was this 'the witches.'.. anyway thanks for allowing me to reminice:)

reply

My memory must be unusually strong, or this movie just had a really big affect on me because I never forgot the name or what it was about-and I couldn't have been more than 3 or 4 when I saw it.

My parents didn't believe me until they remembered it just recently. They also tried to make me think I'd just dreamed it, but my sister remembered being creeped out while I remember just laughing:

"God my legs are itchy.."
*Sees hair coming out of pant legs a mile a minute*
"Stop."
*Hair keeps growing*
"Stop growing"
*Grows*
"STOP!"
*Stops growing*

I wish it would come on tv again or i could find it somewhere.

reply

LOL I was born in 1983 and it must have come on tv when I was about 6 or 7. I have never forgotten it, it totally freaked me out. As with some of the other posts, no one remembered it, and then one day I was randomly talking about it with a friend and SHE REMEMBERED IT!!! I was so happy, because I had described it before and people just gave me a weird look. I've never seen it since then, on tv or otherwise. Its one of those movies like "The Garbage Pail Kids" that not a lot of people seem to have seen but you never forget.

reply

OMG OMG OMG it's not only me when i was 5 always had nightmares about this movie and now just type this "movie about a boy take something make his hair very long"
and found it wtf is that a curse or some thing
