i know he was a ghost but why would he be there,at the start of the film he says to the preacher her husband left maybe he was killed by the marshal and came back for his wife and daughter.

No, he was not the husband and father. both sarah and barret say that her husband left her and hurt her. Add in the fact that the preacher was murdered by stockburn and it pretty much shows he was not the husband.

sarah states that her husband left her and she did not want to be hurt that way again while talking to Meagan. Barret tells the preacher that sarahs husband lit out on her. He did not die. Also, she would have recognized him if he was her husband. Stockburn recognized him, so why would sarah not?

Why do so many people keep saying he was a Ghost? That's as ridiculous as the OP's post.

Because in the trivia section, Clint Eastwood said so.
