do you take the $1,000?

I checked the first result on Google for 'inflation calculator'. Here's what it says:

What cost $1000 in 1865 would cost $14786.91 in 2012.
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2012 and 1865, they would cost you $1000 and $70.53 respectively.

$14,786 isn't anything to sneeze at. I get all that money and all I have to do is leave my dead dog's gravesite and move to the next valley? I'm already packing.

Watching it now. I would take the 1,000. It's a great offer. My family would be able to relocate and humbly and peacefully live....

I thought $1000 was very generous. I would have bit his arm off to get the money. Plus the alternative to not taking the money is dying so it's a no brainer :)
