Sarah had sex with Preacher

Earlier I had some doubt that whether Preacher had sex with Sarah. I happened to watch the movie again, and this time I came to conclusion they had sex.

Sarah says she wanted to thank preacher for saving her daughter and in any way he wishes to.At that time she was ready for sex and had come pre planned about it. She was already attracted to him and also confesses to her daughter later that they both love him.

Sarah was afraid that Preacher would also leave him like his husband, but for one last time she wanted to be with him.

She kisses Preacher and was about to leave, but then after hearing voices, she closes the door and comes back to Preacher. She could have gone outside and close the door and need not come back. She asks preahcer who is he in real (A priest or a Gun slinger)but he says that does it really matter. Sarah also feels the same and comes closer to him. This indicates a sexual encounter.

She was not interested in Hull. Only when Preacher left them, to collect his Guns, she thought that he wont return so she agreed to Hull's proposal.

She said, she didnt want to wake up in night with memories of Preacher,so for once she wanted intimacy with him.

All this clearly indicates, that they had sex. And Preacher wont mind having sex with a mature women like Sarah. He knew that she didnt love Hull and had come to him.

But being a Preacher doesnt mean u cant have sex with woman. Eastwood didnt carry a gun when he used to move as preacher and when he gets his guns he left the preacher's collar.

Maybe he was acting as both, a Preacher and a Gunfighter.

Nowhere in the movie Eastwood said he was a Preacher, he was given the name by Sarah.

Even stockburn was surprised when Lahood tells him about a Preacher. He says that man is dead. So he was a preacher long back.

I love that the morning after so to speak, Hull is waiting outside with a face like thunder and tilts his gun towards Preacher. For a heartstopping minute, you aren't sure what is going to happen. Then he smiles slowly at going along with Preacher. Do you get the feeling he knows what has happened between Sarah and Preacher?

reply

Even if he knew what happened between Preacher(His saviour) and Sarah(His would be wife) he wouldnt have done anything. I think he knew that something was going on between the two of them, but decided to stay aloof.

It is not clear that Sarah stayed the night, anyway. When she arrives in the hut where the Preacher is cleaning his guns, it is twilight, not yet evening. There is nothing to indicate she stayed the whole night.

The sequence is edited, though, to make you wonder whether Hull knew exactly what was going on, but in I believe it is the next scene you see Sarah back in her house as if nothing was going on. So it's likely Hull would not have concluded Sarah spent the night with the Preacher, since she probably did not.

reply

I think Hull knew, there is subtle tension between Hull and the Preacher in the next scene - it's a double entendre when Preacher tells Hull he won't stand much of a chance with that buffalo rifle.

reply

Well...they defintely have sex. I mean what do you think they are going to as the scene closes on her walking towards him: play cards!?

As to staying the night, I agree that is left open. The exchange with Hull in the morning is rather nicely edited to give an uneasy ambiguous feeling.

reply

As I pointed out in another post, if I were Hull, I'd have kicked her ass to the curb, or creek in this case, after that. What a complete slap in the face considering he'd been busting his ass to take care of both her and Megan long before old Preacher came strolling into camp. Besides, she was so fugly, even someone like Spider would probably have to think real hard before tapping that. Then again, he was such a drunkard, he'd probably hit it and regret it later on when he sobered up again. Lol.

reply

I don't even care if they did have sex, I take issue with Sarah herself.

She was the most annoying woman I have ever seen on a movie, period. Every time she was the focal point of a scene I wanted to gouge my eyes out with a straw. It was just as annoying as the Frodo scenes in LOTR (you all won't admit, but none of you liked them either).

reply

I would have liked to have seen the actual scene. As for Hull being in the closet that's hilarious.

I totally agree. Sarah was so annoying! I didn't believe for one minute that Preacher was attracted to her.

C'mon?!

Not when you had someone as young and beautiful as Megan around. In modern times, yes, it would be thought of as foul if a man of Preacher's age would be attracted to 14 year old Megan. But back then, like Megan said, 14-15 made her of marriageable age. Meaning, people back then wouldn't have done a double take if Megan and Preacher hooked up.

What kept Preacher from being with Megan was he knew she was too innocent for him. His past was too dark for her. If he was a regular miner or farmer, I can guarantee that he would have had no qualms marrying Megan even if she was only 15.

Yea, Clint took the easy approach by banging the older and less attractive hag, Sarah, but to seduce a nubile 14 year old exotic beauty like Megan would make him appear as a leacherous pervert. So Clint cleverly took the lesser of two evils by banging the worn out older woman.

There is an overhead shot of the camp (right after Sarah closes the door and walks towards Preacher) and if you look closely you see one of the cabins' lights turn off. She may not have stayed the WHOLE night, but she definitely stayed long enough to ride Preacher's hobby horse.

reply

She may not have been attractive, but her somewhat haggard appearance makes the film alot more realistic and believable than if she'd been a gorgeous well-groomed beauty with perfect face, hair, body, etc. I've heard it said Clint took particular attention to detail in this movie to make it as historically accurate as possible. Therefore, it'd make sense Sarah was on the homely side, as pioneer life was definitely not easy for any woman who spent a significant amount of time being part of a hard-working family that was not at all wealthy.

I do know what you mean though. There are several shots of her in the movie where her gaunt-looking face reminds me of the old dried-up tweaker women I sometimes see around town where I live. Lol.

Just my opinon.

I agree, I feel they made this particular scene a little bit ambiguous on purpose, to allow the viewer to come to their own conclusion depending on how they've been interpreting the film so far. That's actually a pretty good filming technique, not all that easy to pull off so well.

I'm sorry but isn't this unbelievably obvious? It's like saying Clint Eastwood killed the dude at the end. Sorry if I'm being an *beep* but seriously.

She is like a lot of shallow people. You have something good and reliable then
you see someone who physically and sexually excites you and you become addicted to them and start thinking of them as a mate based on just sexual feelings.
Mr or MS Good and Reliable gets forgotten and then as usually happens , the hot passing fancy moves on just like it is in this movie , in this case we know why he cant commit however i cant imagine him sticking with someone like her even if he wasnt who he was - he had some scruples to know that if this woman did it once shed do it again. She only agreed to marry Hull once she knew the Preacher wasn't on the marrying market. She really deserved to be dumped by Hull. as for the insinuation that she slept with the Preacher, i would hope not , the suggestive walk towards him in their scene together is an assumption not necessarily a fact.

Just watched Pale Rider and its clear they do have sex. Thats the indication.

My take is that the preacher comes to the different characters for different purposes.
For Sarah its about closure. She was being difficult to Hull because she was still not over her husband that dissapeared.
So the preacher gives her closure and now are free to pursuit a good relationship with Hull.

reply

So American women mostly just need a good dicking to get their lives back on track? Hull should, in a sense, be grateful?

While I can agree with you that that seems to be the intended effect of the preacher character, the way the whole Megan-Sarah-Preacher love triangle develops throughout the film made me wish that the marshall and LeHood would wipe them all out so Hull could move on.

reply

Nope she had no sex with him that's why near the end she kissed him and said she had to kiss him so she would know what it was like and not have to wonder for the rest of her life. If she had had sex with him before hand she would of already knew.

In fact it was a little annoying that she had it in her head that she ever had a chance with him as that was never implied she just presumed. She actually carried on like she had a choice of men fighting for her lol

reply

Sarah was a skank, and an ugly one at that. The Preacher had it made with Megan, it's just too bad he didn't take her up on her offer.

reply

What a dumb post. There's nothing in here to imply sexual intimacy. Preacher is just that, a religious "man of god". He knows the two are already in love with one another, and isn't about to come between them.
