Denys, what a jerk

I'm in my late twenties and I realize seeing this movie again what a jerk Denys is. She was right to break up with him for not wanting to get married.

Robert Redford made him much more likeable than the real Denys and there were many more reasons for them to part company. Considering that Karen Blixen stayed friends with Bror despite his dalliances and other shortcomings, shows that she must have been very forgiving of men, perhaps because of her love for her father who apparently had some of his own.

Rather the opposite. She was supposed to be more tolerant than she was (and more "forgiving" women replaced her with both Denys and Bror, who were well-liked despite being spoiled and feckless). Karen's biggest problem was that she was neither English nor noble by birth, which was a double blot on her reputation.

Not that Karen just sat at home and pined. She had other lovers besides Denys.

@Anne Like he said in the film, " I won't be closer to you and I won't love you more because of a piece of paper."
