If you have seen this film (in, say, a Non-Western Cinema class), what did you think of the ending? Any reason for the kid to, apparently, sleep-walk up the tree? Just curious.

Perhaps just a metaphor like "Importance of Imagination" or "Greatness of the Human Spirit"

www.kustu.com uses it as an example of kitsch in the film; "a manifestation of the ignorance to human suffering and the impossible flight upward to useless ideals" is, I think, the sentence I used in my term paper...
