laugh it up

There's a batch of movies, especially from the former Yugoslavia, that are comical in action yet politically serious in essence. It's easy to forget indeed, if one ever knew, of the 300,000 lives lost in purges, starvation, exhaustion, and the mulititude of dispossessed and exiled under the early years of Tito. His reign was more Stalinesque than the USSR at this time what with a perceived imminent attack from Uncle Joe and the always corrosive influence of Western liberty that capitalism fosters.

Nevertheless this is a very good film and the leading actor and actress are inveterate professionals. I suspect both personally know the foiables of Titos Yugoslavia but like so many today may even harbor a certain nostalgia for a bygone era.
