Priest's car....

Uhm... the priest is arriving with a ROLLS ROYCE.
That kinda stunned me. A buddhist priest and such a car? Aren't those people supposed to be free of material goods? Am I wrong or should a real buddhist rather drive around with a bike rather then a 300.000-500.000$ car?

I'm from Vietnam, which has very similar funeral customs to Japan, and I can confirm that it's not unusual for buddhist priests hereto possess luxurious cars or hi-tech mobiphones. Technically speaking they don't have steady income, but the donations from families to turn to them for funeral service, purification, charms are more than enough to afford those expensive goods. Maybe the same thing happens in Japan, and that scene must be a wink at the absurdity of buddhist priests.
