Story Setting

I am aware that this was filmed in Canada, but it's supposed to take place somewhere in the US. Anybody have any theories?

My mom keeps thinking the story takes place in eastern Oregon, I keep wondering if it's in a Midwestern state, and there was even a theory that it took place in Maine.

The only real theory I have is that it was meant to be in an "anyplace USA that's snowy" kinda setting.

What do the rest of you think?

I don't believe it's ever mentioned. But early in the film I saw a blatant Canada flag in the background attached to a building. I'm going to assume it takes place in Canada for their sake.

It's clearly Canada.

There are a lot of American product placements and such.
