So...why not sell the gun? (spoilers, quite obviously)

So the guy is so hard up he's trying to sell the car they live in and the camp stove they eat with. But he never thinks pawn the .38 (which is obviously in fine working order) which would probably bring in at least the fifty dollars he was asking for the camp stove and maybe even the hundred he was asking for the car.

Not completely thought out there. You could still do the murder/kidnapping angle by having the guy carjack the dad's car with the kids still inside to make his getaway. Then the dad jumps in front of the car in desperation to save his kids and is run down.

Bah! I came on here to make that very same point!

but none of that (the bank robbery/kidnapping/father dying) happened so who says he even had a gun?

reply

Uhhh what? But it did happen. And he did have a gun.

reply

Good question?

Maybe he pawned off the stove to buy the gun.

reply

This. Or he was able to sell the car to someone else and got then got the gun?

reply

He wanted to sell the car/stove specifically to have enough money to give his kid SOME kind of Christmas. That was the only reason he was trying to sell that stuff in the first place. The only reason he snapped and robbed the bank, was because he couldn't think of anything else. If he had money to buy a gun, he would have had money to get his kid SOMETHING. And wouldn't have thought to bother robbing the bank.
