Amazingly obscure

I asked every film buff I know if they've ever heard of this movie and not a soul has. Apparently from the posts above, some have. Im not suprised seeing that i've only seen it on one of the Cinemax channels and once on Flix at 2am. Good movie IMO. Classic National Lampoons humor. Directing could have been better.

I agree with your comments on direction. Robert Altman is usually fantastic at quirky ensemble pieces. I think sophomoric screwball material like 'O.C. and Stiggs' is better suited to a director like John Hughes, or other directors from that period like Jeff Kanew, Amy Heckerling or Tom Ropelewski.

I saw it a long time ago and don't remeber much except for Dennis Hopper, he was a blast continuing on the role he had in Apocalypse Now.
Is it still any good? I mean, does it hold up? Is it worth revisiting?

Altman's one of those directors whose mistakes and slumps are just pregnant pauses before another really good movie comes along.
.
I loved O.C. and Stiggs. Even though the script and the actor's improvisations couldn't really fill a ninety-minute movie. It was still fun, especially if you've got a buddy (with a cold six-pack) who warns you that it's a shaggy-dog movie with a great cast---

If you've read the original magazine stories that the movie was based on, then watching the movie is like watching someone overcook and ruin a good steak. It could've been great, but there's never going to be another chance to get it right.

dennis hopper and melvin van peebles were the standouts for me. it was also cool seeing cynthia nixon when she was so young.

And still attractive...

I think the direction was the strong point of the film, with several of Altman's unique touches. Unfortunately, it's his weakest film in my view. I'm not really sure what he was trying to accomplish here, because he seems to be trying to satirize teen comedies rather than celebrating them, but I found the result very muddled. 5/10 stars from me.
