Jesse's dad is the best character.

Clu Gulager is pretty hilarious in the Never Sleep Again documentary too.

Yes, he is one of the most amusing characters in the whole series.

I like how Jesse's dad really can't deal with the unexplainable. If I see a bird go nuts, cannibalize its mate, and then explode, I don't accuse my son of hiding a cherry bomb in there. It's such an old-fashioned way of trying to explain what he knows he can't explain and get some of the tension out of himself by yelling at someone. It's really a beautiful scene because he insists on rationality when there simply is none. He really can't handle anything that fits his predefined schema, and the whole movie from his point of view is hilarious: son slowly goes nuts, wife is nagging, birds explode...and maybe he fixes the air conditioning?

In a weird way, the whole of Nightmare 2 from Clu's POV is a sick comedy featuring a pyromaniac streaker for a son and a daughter who loves her cereal to be firmly meshed in Yellow Peril stereotypes.
