Worth it

This film is £3 in my local Tesco. I remember watching this as a kid and loving it but is it worth buying it to watch again? Or is it not as good as i remember.

I usually watch this movie once or twice a year. When I was growing up i must have watched this one and the last starfighter every weekend. Everytime i watch it i feel like a little kid again. When dennis hoppers character gets sucked up into the "gizmo" it used to scare the crap out of me and when i watch that part now i still get a little echo of that fear even though it isn't scary. One of the most (in my opinion) underated eighties movies ever.

I just got this from Netflix, as I saw it in 1986 or so when I was maybe 8. I must have forgotten the whole thing. This is one of the sh itiest films I have ever seen, I give it a generous 3. The acting and dialouge are absolutely atrocious. To even mention this in the same breath as The Last Starfighter, (a real 80's classic), is absurd. This film has ZERO redeeming value. I just watched Krull this week which has shot up to a 9 in my mind compared to this.

It's still holds up very well, but be careful if you manage to track down a copy, some here are reporting that their DVD's are presented in pan and scan and not the film's true ratio of 2.35:1.

Not sure if that means much to you (which it should since the film was shot anamophically and there is so much you miss in pan and scan) but I wanted to give you a heads up anyway.
