On TV again...

Right after they kiss Sandy's father yells for them to get inside. The following day Butch's parents show up to take him home. The two families sit outside and shoot the breeze for awhile. Sandy packs her little suitcase and plans on running away with Butch (she even packs her doll). She waits for Butch at the gate, but it's Butch's father driving the Cadillac. He says, Hey Ruthie can you open the gate for me? After he drives through she realizes her suitcase is in the car and tries to get his attention, but he doesn't hear her. Then Butch's mother quickly drives by and Butch looks back at Sandy ,but they didn't even get to say goodbye. Later that day, Sandy's mother drives by and tells her that boys are like buses their is always another one coming along soon. As an adult looking back, Sandy tells us that she never saw her cousin again, that Butch's parents got divorced, Shirley and her boyfriend got married, and that her father eventually sold the ranch. She said that every time she opened the gate she thought about Butch.
