First film I saw in a theater after moving to California in the 80s

Liked it enough at the time, but I wonder what I'd think of it now. I do recall Michael Medved and Jeffrey Lyons reviewing it on "Sneak Previews". Lyons didn't care for it, commenting on his own childhood summer in British Columbia; "It was beautiful and boring, and there's not gonna be a movie about it". I've never seen AMERICAN BOYFRIENDS, and only learned of it in recent years.
